Danny Long was the 12th JHS coach in history coaching the Fightin’ Indians for twelve years from 1991-2002, tying him with the late Dick Sheffield (1959-1970) for the longest tenured head coach. Long was the head coach of the most total games JHS history (141), has the most wins (94) and has the highest winning percentage (67%). In twelve years, Long took Jacksonville to the playoffs nine times. Four of his players from JHS went on to play in the NFL. After leaving Jacksonville in 2002, he went on to serve as the Tyler ISD Athletic Director and the Conroe ISD Athletic Director. The three McCown brothers from Jacksonville aptly named Danny an Influential Educator. Randy McCown, former Texas A&M quarterback presented the award. His brothers, Josh and Luke, are current quarterbacks in the NFL. All three McCown brothers were coached by Coach Long and are JHS graduates.
